Alphabet Tracing Worksheet | Big Letters (C & D)

Hey guys! Welcome back to the blog. After mastering the crisp straight lines of letters A and B, it is officially time to shake things up a little bit. Today, we are moving right along to our next exciting pair, uppercase and lowercase C c and D d.

Shifting from straight lines to curves is a huge milestone for little writers. Letter C introduces that beautiful flowing crescent curve, while letter D combines a strong vertical spine with one giant half circle curve. To keep the momentum going, I have used the exact same beginner friendly sizing that makes it so much easier for tiny hands to gain total control over their pencils.

I designed this tracing worksheet entirely by myself because I know from my own teaching experience how frustrating standard worksheets can be. Often, the letters are way too small or the tracking lines are incredibly cramped, which just leads to tears and giving up. So, I personally adjusted the letter size to fit developing fine motor skills and added super clear stroke guides. This resource is a special passion project created specifically for our amazing LearnCollecta readers, so please feel free to use it for your classroom or your home learning station!

✨ Let us look at how to make these sheets a fun, joyful part of your daily routine!

🎯 Learning Goal for Letters C c and D d

Today, we are focusing on helping our kiddos understand the unique physical structure of these letters while connecting them to real spoken language:

🌟 Visual Sequencing and Shapes: Your child will practice controlling their wrist movements to create smooth curves. They will learn how to sweep around for C, and how to lift their pencil to close up the big belly on letter D.

🌟 Phonemic Awareness: We are not just drawing lines, we are building reading skills! This sheet introduces the foundational sounds of /k/ and /d/, matching them with super fun everyday vocabulary words like Cat and Dog.

📝 How to Use These Worksheets at Home

Getting these worksheets ready takes less than a minute, and you can easily adapt them to fit your child’s learning style:

  1. Print and Trace: Just print the PDF pages out and let your child explore the shapes using thick crayons, washable markers, or colored pencils. Thicker writing tools are a lot easier for tiny hands to grasp as they build up their finger muscles.
  2. The Brilliant Reusable Hack: If you want your child to practice over and over again without going through a mountain of paper, slide the printed sheets into a plastic sleeve protector or run them through a laminator. Hand them some colorful dry erase markers, and they can trace, wipe it clean with a cloth, and start fresh. Kids honestly find the smooth feeling of writing on laminate completely addictive!
  3. Keep the Pace Steady: Try doing just two pages a day. Keeping the sessions short and sweet is always a million times better than dumping a huge stack of papers on them all at once. Short sessions keep the energy high and leave them excited for the next day!

💡 Quick Teacher Tip: Fun Phonics Actions

To help these letter sounds truly stick in your child’s memory, try pairing the tracing practice with these playful physical cues during your session:

🐱 For the Letter C: Encourage your child to make a short, sharp /k/ /k/ /k/ sound. Tell them to pretend they are crunching into a super crisp, delicious carrot!

🐶 For the Letter D: Ask your child to pretend they are a rockstar playing a big drum set. Have them make a bouncing /d/ /d/ /d/ sound every single time they trace the straight spine and the big curve of letter D!

Connecting the physical pencil movements with these silly stories and mouth shapes creates a lasting memory anchor in their minds, making reading so much easier later on.
